A Study of A Study In Pink

I intend, by all means, to do a semi-analysis of the impressions that Sherlock series left on me.

A Study In Pink is, certainly, an extremely good approach to all things Sherlock. First, the story itself. It’s very well made, astonishing, uses all the resources that could be used to make all the possible references to the original books - I recommend that you read them before watching Sherlock, yes, it might take you months, but it will be very, very worth your efforts.
What I loved, is the way that most details are put into action. Holmes using 3G/4G? Amazing idea. And as I said, the fan references are all there. And these are just details. There are many positive things to be said about those.

Regarding this first, introductory episode, some affirmations can be instantly made:

The production of the series is very high, all episodes running about 90 minutes long.
The story dynamic is spot-on, the watcher never feels bored. Never.
The dialogues are amazing. Very Holmes, and yet very actual. Though the real Holmes constructed his phrases in a much more elegant form, it will be awkward to hear them today, in modern London. London was it? I’m not that good with details, and too lazy to check now, haha.
And above all, the acting. Both Freeman and Cumberbatch left me a very good impression since the beginning.

However, some points of interest can also be made, regarding production… choices. I particularly didn’t liked that they chose a fit (as in, not fat) person for Watson. And he doesn’t have a mustache. Also, if I recall, he was married in the books. All these are details, but I do not understand the motives.

In all, it’s a must watch. This first episode is excellent and I hope that everyone who watches it, will enjoy it as much as I do, be it a Sherlock fan or not.

In future posts, I’ll try to add more information about an even more personal analysis of the “deductive” methods that Sherlock uses, which picked - very much - my interest.
